29: Shower Training Needed

“Maybe I should go check on her?” Hana asked me with concern.

We stood at the checkout. Me on one side and Hana on the other. We were in a standoff. I tried to think of any single valid excuse why Hana shouldn’t go check on Fenra.

It is her bathroom after all.

Haha had already rang me up for all the food and supplies and still Fenra had not re-emerged.

I had a growing sense of unease. Whatever Fenra was doing back there, it couldn’t be good. It never was. But following my ‘little sister’ into the bathroom seemed like a recipe for disaster. And letting Hana go check for herself… well that was an even more terrifying prospect.

“Um, uh… shall we maybe see what my tab is sitting at?”

Hana raised both eyebrows.

“Last time you were here you seemed pretty against looking. Downright scared of it in-fact.”

Yes. And I still am.

Hana clacked away at the POS machine, frowning. I don’t like that look. A long receipt began printing. And kept printing. She put on a pair of glasses, peering over it once it was finished and highlighting various items. My palms were sweating.

This is it. Bankruptcy. The end of the Kitayashi adventure. Not death by demon nor by woman. Financial ruin by way of hammers, clothes and meat.

Finally Hana handed me the bill. I swallowed and took a look. With sweaty shaking hands I read down the list of items. It just kept going. After a good five minutes put it down onto the counter in shock.

“Hana this is….I mean, are you sure?”

“It’s not that bad right?”

“I’m shocked! It’s only about half of next month’s stipend. Did you really charge me for everything?”

Hana winked and leaned over the counter. I tried not to look down as her top revealed the swell of her breasts, pink hair spilling out over them, her bright eyes gleaming as she teased.

“Well, I had to give you the friends and family discount… of course.”

Then she giggled.

I hate that giggle. And I love it.

A loud BANG from the bathroom interrupted the flirtatious moment. I wasn’t sure whether to be grateful or not. Hana was over the counter and heading to the back immediately. I gritted my teeth and followed her.

“Just… wait! I mean, let me check on her first… she’s a little strange… I told you… remember!?”

But my words fell on deaf ears. Hana was practically sprinting now. I followed her through the aisles of the store and down the hallway behind, now entering her home. I marveled at it once again. The beautiful wood floors, the white walls. When Hana got to the bathroom I was close behind. I saw her fling the door open then slam it shut.

I’m too late.

I leaned back against the opposite wall and bit my nails. There was a tense silence. I heard no noise from inside. Then I heard a gasp, the sound of running water and then a scream.

Oh god, this is it, Fenra is attacking her!.
